Introduction to Color

There is different ways of seeing and categorizing colors. Color derives from the spectrum of light, which interacts with the light receptors of a human eye. It is a visual/perceptual property in humans to categorize red, yellow blue and others. Colors can covey a mood describe reality or codify information.

Sonia Delaunay a french artist once said that we need to appreciate the relationships with color to fully appreciate art. In class we have been over some of Delaunay's work. They are all have very distinct colors and patterns.

In class we've discussed specific methods when using color.
-Variation vs Value
-Bezold effect
-Optical color mixing/mixing primary colors

One sentence that really stood out for me out of all the rest is the following:
Color exists in the eye of the beholder

Our in class assignment was to make create a grid of 6 by 6 squares (36 in total) with white in the upper-left corner, black in the upper-right and colors that you chose in the bottom corners. We had to fill the rest of the squares with shades and tints of the colors.

Our home assignment consisted of three choices. The one I chose was to create a geometrical allusion by drawing. Next step was to apply color patterns and experiment with hue, value, and saturation. We had the chance of experimenting with juxtaposing elements. Here is what I came up with:
